For 111 years the Sociedade de Instrução Musical de Porto Salvo has taught children, young people and adults to read a stave, pick up an instrument and take the stage in uniform. The lesson starts here; the concert is the whole of Oeiras.

The Music School
Every instrument has a section.
The school is organised the way the band is — by section. Beginners start in Music Initiation, choose an instrument, and grow through the ranks until their first concert in uniform.

The Banda da Sociedade de Instrução Musical de Porto Salvo is where the school ends up: a philharmonic wind band of mostly amateur musicians — neighbours, parents, former students — playing processions, festivals and concert halls since 1914.

Francisco Sequeira
Took the baton in 2011 and relaunched the school as the Academia de Música da SIMPS — a pilot with new structure, pedagogy and repertoire. Before him, Maestro Délio Gonçalves led the band to its Austrian prize in 2005.

A century of keeping time.
Founded as a recreational music group in a village of Oeiras, SIMPS built a school, a hall and a band that three generations still call theirs.

Grupo Musical Recreativo Portosalvense
Founded on 15 November 1914 by the people of Porto Salvo to teach and play music together.

A new name
Renamed Grupo de Instrução Musical de Porto Salvo — instruction, not just recreation, becomes the mission.

The village's first school
On 25 November the members inaugurate Porto Salvo's first primary school, built with the association's effort.

The sede and its grand hall
The current headquarters open with the salão nobre. The first group to play there is 'O Sólido'.

First prize in Austria
Under Maestro Délio Gonçalves the band wins 1st prize, 3rd category, at the V Internacional Musiktage in Vöcklabruck.

Maestro Francisco Sequeira takes the baton; the school is relaunched with new structure and pedagogy.

Who we are
A cultural, sporting and social pillar of Porto Salvo.
The Sociedade de Instrução Musical de Porto Salvo is a non-profit association run by its members. Its purpose has not changed since 1914: teach music, play it together, and give the village a place to meet.
The school and the band are one thing. Children learn the stave in the sede's classrooms, borrow an instrument, and years later sit in the same band as their parents — some of whom have been members for half a century.
The association also fights something quieter: isolation. Lunches, dances, choir and sport bring neighbours of every age through the same door every week — which is why the Junta de Freguesia and the Câmara Municipal de Oeiras call SIMPS a pillar of the community.

This musical society is quite old, its foundation dating back to 1914, although under the name 'Sociedade Musical e Recreativa Portosalvens'. Only in 1931 did it change its name to the one it still retains today.
I really enjoyed everything. Good atmosphere. Super friendly staff. Excellent food. Great value for money. I highly recommend a visit.
For those who don't know it, I highly recommend visiting the restaurant; you won't regret it. Excellent quality at a good price, excellent regional cuisine.
The food was very good, the portions were generous, and the atmosphere was great! The price was fair!
